Wasteland

cover design ©2001 StringStudios.com The Wasteland CD shows the genius of Nashville Fats' song writing ability and the creativity of this artist. From the you-just-gotta-smile "Yardsale Guitar" to the deep and powerful deathbed Blues of "Glory Bound", Fats demonstrates a wide spectrum of vocal range. Fats ventures into uncharted territory with "Midway" as he becomes the whiskey aged, three-pack-a-day carnie barker on the Midway talking about life. Fats uses three timeless instrumentals to showcase his talent on the guitar.

This is the album to use if you want to get secular music lovers to actually listen to a Christian recording. Clever lyrics and toe-tapping sounds hook the audience faster than you can say "pickin' fool".

All instruments including guitar, bass, keyboards and harmonica Nashville Fats Except on "Glory Bound" and "Armed & Dangerous", Dr. Rythym dr 5 programmed by Nashville Fats. . . Vocals Nashville Fats.
All songs recorded at Big Ears Studio Nashville, TN - Paul Gannon engineer

TRACKSONGDESCRIPTION
1Glory BoundSlow deep blues, crying electric guitar, big fat harp, and chilling blues vocals take you home...
I said the doctor he done told me ya'll
He said "Big boy, I've done all I can do
All I can do for you."
I know its just a matter of time
Oh Jesus I'll be coming home to you
2Armed and Dangerous Co-written by Nashville songwriter and publisher Steve Rupe, this song has quickly become one Fats most requested songs at his live concerts.
Society in the old US of A
Its on the verge of anarchy, corruption, and decay
We forgot about the Bible now there'll be Hell to pay.
I finally listened to his voice
Now I'm armed and dangerous.
I went to a pawn shop
to buy me a .44
3Shenendoah Fats does outstanding instrumental work on this timeless American folk song.
4Gospel BoogieNashville meets Memphis in this 1950's style blues rocker. A fun tune.
5You Reap Just What You SowDouble dose of acoustic blues, lots of glassy slide, and lots of gutsy harp. With a straight ahead message...be careful what you do, God won't be mocked, you will reap what you sow.
6Yardsale GuitarStraight up country blues number, about you guessed it....a good ol' "yard sale guitar", Fats does the pickin' and you'll do the grinnin' when you listen to this song. Sure to be a Fathead favorite.
they had all the basic standard things
like paperback books and costume rings
They even had a ceramic bust of Charles and Di
My truck had cooled and it was time to roll
and I was across the yard just about to go
when that old, beat-up guitar caught my eye
7Immortality (1 Cor. 15:54-55)Go to church with Immortality. Powerful blues harp, high energy acoustic vehicle.
8Fill Me UpWritten by St. Louis friend Chris Shepherd. Fats was impressed by the lyrics asked Chris if he could use this song on Wasteland. What you have is, a blue vocalist interpretation of a CCM song. A great song,
9Call On Jesus Happy little down home Country Blues ditty ala Mississippi John Hurt...
10His Shadow Never Turns Fats uses a John Prine style folk ballad, to illustrate the Steadfastness of God.
You know time rolls on
Well God's shadow never turns
11GreensleevesA true medieval song... solo guitar instrumental, a gem from the Dark Ages
12MidwayA hard to describe song with an unusual message...not only does Jesus love the unlovable, he uses the unlovable, even a hideous midway barker with an aged whiskey voice can share Gods word. A walking jazz tune.
Johnny come lately smiling boys,
in cheap clothes and expensive bridgework
spend their paychecks a buck at a time
trying to throw a ring around a cheap wristwatch
made in back of a chop suey factory
somewhere in East Taiwan.
13LieberstraumThis classical song by Franz Lizst becomes a perfect country waltz in this unusual rendition by Fats.
14He's Knockin' On Your DoorA country blues song. Where the down home country meets the down blues.
15Pray For AmericaFats wrote this song in the mid '80s and it set on the shelf (literally at friend Brinkleys farm) for fifteen years. Last summer Brink took the song off the shelf, and Fats rewrote the song....it is a prayer request for farmers and other hard workers of America.
He had to sell his farmhouse in Oregon back in 1994
well the bank foreclosed on his mortgage and he was too tired to fight any more.
So he moved down to California he got job with his truck hauling hay
and he keeps hopin' and prayin' and thinkin' and sayin'
that things will get better someday
16TrinityTalkin' Blues poetry set against Delta slide guitar.
17WastelandUrban poetry, with a smooth blend of acoustic and electric guitar. Classic Fats.
Its a place of hunger and real despair
and sickness and death fill the air
skeleton cow by a poisoned well
about half way here in the middle of Hell.
that's how she goes in the wasteland
people's lives are dying each and everyday
how it goes in the wasteland
people's lives are shattered each and every way
There ain't but one way out and Jesus is that way.
18That's How It IsA new millennium country waltz. Wasteland project engineer, Paul Gannon (the engineer for this CD) had a lot of fun with this song. No matter what you do, Jesus will return and that's how it is.
Well the great bambino stepped back up to the plate
Well the count was 3 and 2 he said "hold a second, wait"
Well he pointed his finger way up to the sky
here comes the next pitch, you can kiss it good bye.
